BlueLaw at the 2012 Paralympics

In August 2012, BlueLaw’s Allison deFranco, conducted interviews with Paralympic athletes about their air travel experiences for One Billion Strong at the London 2012 Paralympics. One Billion Strong is a new NGO working to strengthen disability rights and BlueLaw’s Human Rights and Inclusive Development Practice has been working closely with One Billion Strong on various projects, including an air transport accessibility project. In addition to conducting interviews, Allison also wrote a daily blog from the games http://www.one-billion-strong.org/site/329/Publications/Blog/Daily-Updates-from-the-Paralympics and distributed materials about One Billion Strong’s human rights education work. BlueLaw Conducts Final Evaluation of Inclusive Education Project in Armenia

In May 2011, BlueLaw Human Rights and Disability Practice Director, Allison deFranco conducted the final evaluation of World Vision’s “Building DPO Outreach for Greater Disability Inclusiveness” project. The 33 month USAID funded project worked with local DPOs and NGOs to create a more inclusive and accessible society for people with disabilities. The project aimed to change attitudes and raise awareness about the rights of persons with disabilities by implementing inclusive education in six communities throughout the country. Ms. deFranco visited project sites in Alaverdi, Stepanavan, Gyumri, and Yerevan to meet with project participants and beneficiaries. The final evaluation reviewed the project’s overall effectiveness in meeting its stated outcomes and analyzed its sustainability beyond project close out.

BlueLaw’s Defranco collaborates on study of disability support service modernization

Legal Associate Allison Defranco launches research collaboration with the University of Galway, Disability Rights Institute directed by Professor Gerard Quinn, set to run from June to September 2010. Allison traveled to Galway at the start of the research project which concerns a comparative study of the modernization of disability support services. BlueLaw is contributing to the international and European law component of the research.
