CORRECTIONS ADVISOR
BlueLaw International (BlueLaw) is actively seeking all levels of Corrections Advisors for key staffing roles on the Criminal Justice Program Support ID/IQ (CJPS) by the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL).
BlueLaw provides technical services on rule of law, justice and security sector reform, human rights and inclusive development, anti-corruption, and public administration reform programs with active contracts with INL, USAID and the Department of Defense. As an implementer in the key areas of defense, diplomacy, and development, and with previous and on-going work in more than 25 countries, BlueLaw is adept at implementing effective programs in fragile, conflict-affected and post-conflict states.
Responsibilities: Corrections Advisors will provide technical assistance and subject matter expertise on matters related to corrections assistance. This expertise will include assessing existing incarceration procedures and facilities, providing areas for improvement to government officials, prison/corrections officials, and criminal justice officials, monitoring and advising local corrections officers, partnering with local officials and/or organizations in developing and conducting assessments, enforcing current correctional rules and regulations, and training and screening candidates for local corrections officer positions. Senior level Justice Advisors will serve as supervisors or leaders of projects, and will work closely with INL to set program and project direction.
Minimum Requirements:
- Eight (8) years work experience and at least five (5) years experience in their relevant field. Senior advisors will demonstrate increasing responsibility and additional supervisory experience
- Graduated from federal or state-certified corrections, probation/parole academy of at least 120 hours in length
- Excellent leadership, analytical, communicative, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Previous experience with State Department and/or USAID rule of law or human rights programs is preferred
- Ability to communicate in English with fluency or near-fluency (written, reading, and speaking)
- Excellent health and ability to pass requisite physical, medical, and psychological testing
- Valid U.S. passport
